Main Description: John Blaikie of Glasgow. Started in business in 1816 at 36 Brunswick Place. In 1818 became J. Blaikie & Son. Apparently John B. Died 1821; his son took over. Company became J. Blackie (Note spelling change. Changes in addresses). J. Blackie was in business for a number of years, to the mid 19th century, this Flintlock would date to 1816 - 1821, apart from traditionalists, British sportsmen rapidly adopted the percussion system. That is a fairly late flint sporting gun, although quality flint sporting guns were made for another 20 years. Silver bead, Damascus barrels with smooth rib, engraved side locks with hammers and frizzen that function, gold inlays on the breech plugs. One piece half length wood stock, single forearm wedge which is loose with one fitting that is broken, checkered pistol grip chipped and cracked around locks and tang, smooth steel butt plate chipped and cracked at toe, vanity plate, engraved steel finger rest trigger guard, wood ramrod with brass tip.

Wear: Metal finish turning brown with light pitted spots, rust speckles, scratches, handling marks and wear. Stock shows some marks, scratches and wear.
