According to the consignor, the “MB” monogram is attributed to Prince Maurice of Battenberg (later Mountbatten), the youngest grandchild of Queen Victoria. Prince Maurice was born on October 3, 1891, at Balmoral Castle, and was killed in action in Belgium on October 27, 1914.
This attribution suggests a late Victorian to early First World War association and indicates a possible connection to British royal and military history.
