LEFT SIDE OF BARREL MARKED KENTUCKY. BLADE FRONT SIGHT, ADJUSTABLE U NOTCH LADDER REAR SIGHT. TAPERED ROUND BARREL, BLUED FINISH, CHECKERED SPUR HAMMER THAT FUNCTIONS, BUTTON ON LEFT SIDE OF FRAME ALLOWS BARREL TO ROTATE 180 DEGREES, WHICH ALLOWS A ROUND FROM THE MAGAZINE TUBE IN LEFT SIDE OF STOCK TO FEED INTO CHAMBER, THEN ROTATES BACK ALLOWING IT TO BE FIRED. TWO PIECE SMOOTH WOOD STOCKS, STRAIGHT GRIP, CRACK ON LEFT SIDE, SMOOTH CURVED STEEL BUTT PLATE, MARKED US WITH SWIVEL ON THE TOP. ONE SWIVEL ON TOE OF STOCK, LEFT SIDE OF STOCK SHOWS A DARK REPAIRED SPOT, DUE TO THE THINNESS OF THE WOOD COVERING THE MAGAZINE TUBE, SINGLE BARREL BAND. METAL FINISH SHOWS A FEW LIGHT PITTED SPOTS, SCRATCHES, HANDLING MARKS AND WEAR, STOCK SHOWS SOME MARKS, SCRATCHES AND WEAR. SOME INTERESTING HISTORY ON THIS FIREARM " IN 1864 AND 1865, THE MERIDEN MANUFACTURING COMPANY IN MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT PRODUCED THIS .50 CALIBER RIMFIRE REPEATING CARBINE. ON JANUARY 2, 1865, THE STATE OF KENTUCKY CONTRACTED FOR 5,000 OF THESE CARBINES TO ARM THE HOME GUARD BUT THE WEAPONS ARRIVED TOO LATE TO BE USED IN THE CIVIL WAR. SEVEN ROUNDS WERE STORED IN A STEEL MAGAZINE TUBE LOCATED IN THE LOWER WRIST AREA OF THE STOCK. THE RIFLE’S UNUSUAL ACTION OPERATED BY DEPRESSING A LATCH BEHIND THE HAMMER, WHICH ALLOWED THE SHOOTER TO TWIST THE BARREL IN A CIRCULAR MOTION TO ALIGN WITH THE MAGAZINE".
